A few months ago Style Tribe had a project going on where she avoided shopping for I think about two weeks. I admired the strength she showed but never really dared to try it myself. A few days ago I realized that because of a busy schedule I hadn’t been shopping for about two weeks either. Usually I have this urge for going shopping most of the time. Now my money is gone anyway (strange how the money disappears no matter if I’m shopping or not) so it’ll be about a week until I am even able to go shopping again. That will be three weeks without shopping! The constant urge is gone. Maybe I’m cured for my shopaholic tendencies?
The biggest change I’ve noticed is that I am starting to appreciate my wardrobe in a whole new way. Lately I have been wearing some items that I’ve never or hardly ever worn. I’m starting to put together things in new ways. I’m starting to realize how much cool stuff I actually have. May it be so that less shopping will assure a better style? In stead of buying new things to wear all the time, which often may lead to an overly trendy look, I may become more creative. The time I spend with my old clothes may make me see what I really need in stead of what I want. And the money I save may let me spend more money on the things I actually buy instead buying low quality items.
I find the thought intriguing and it makes me kind of happy to be broke so that I can see where it takes me. Maybe I’m all wrong but if I’m not it’s a great lesson to learn. I just wonder how long it will take before I get that feeling that my world is going to collapse unless I run over to H&M for a quick look.
There was a time a couple of years ago that I didn't shop for three months (gasp!). I couldn't. I had no job. So all of the clothes that I've had in my closet that was hardly getting worn saw the light of day again. When I lacked the funds to buy something new, I got creative. The clothes that still had tags on them were now being worn, and the clothes that I wore once and never wore again were being worn again. To me, it felt like I've had on something "new", but it was just put together in a different way. It certainly has helped me save money, even though I cheat sometimes with all these great deals I find, lol.
