Homemade beauty: recipe for beautiful feet

One of the best things about spring and summer is that you get to wear those cute sandals that you've waited until winter was over for. But if you've got some jacked up feet, it's best that you keep wearing those closed-toe shoes, just kidding. For all you gals (and some of you men) who have some not-so-cutesy tootsies right about now, here's a recipe to get those feet looking right for sandal season. Enjoy!

The Perfume Hustle

Yesterday while at my family's house, a group of women in a van pulled up. "Excuse me, do any of you wanna buy some cologne?", one of the women asked. "Do you have Polo Black?", I asked, because I wanted to get Mr. Cheap Chica a bottle (it smells so good). She told me she had some and led me to the back of the van. The "Polo Black" she had was some knockoff version and she was selling them for $20 a bottle! I may be cheap and all, but when it comes to cologne for myself and Mr. Cheap Chica, I want the real deal. She was giving me this song and dance about how they needed the money for school books and they were selling the cologne as a side hustle. I wasn't buying. My aunt somehow got roped into buying several bottles of cologne for $20 a pop when for another $10 or $15 she could have bought the real stuff. If the chick was selling the stuff for $5 or maybe even $10, I probably would have bought it. But to me, $20 is a lot of money for some fake shit. What would you have done in this situation? Would you spend the $20 on a bottle of cologne knowing damn well that the scent would probably last all of five minutes, or would you have kept it movin' and spend your money wisely? I did the latter.

For a natural and inexpensive way to exfoliate your dry, flaky skin, try this easy recipe.

What you will need: sea salt, lavender oil for fragrance (optional)

What to do: Wet your face or anywhere else on your body that needs exfoliating. Apply a couple of teaspoons of sea salt then gently massage into skin with your fingers. Leave on for about a minute then rinse with cold water(cold water will tighten pores). This can be done once a week.

Thrift store shopping on Mom's birthday

This morning, me, my mom, and my little brother celebrated her birthday by going for breakfast and doing a little shopping at one of my favorite thrift stores, The Family Thrift Center. Here are some of my finds:

Cherub trinket box $0.99

Mossimo sweater $0.99. I DEFINITELY don't buy sweaters this time of the year, but I liked this one and I'll eventually put it to use when fall/winter rolls around again.

Dress $1.99. I usually don't wear dresses, but I really liked this one. I figure it would be nice to wear to dinner, a job interview, etc. It'll just be something in my closet to wear when a special occassion does pop up, and I didn't spend a whole lot for it.

Plaid shirt $0.99. I wish this camera would've taken a better picture to show the gold threading in the plaid design, it's cute. It fits really well, sort of like a tunic. I think I will throw a belt on over it to give it shape.

Mom tamed herself today. She usually goes crazy in thrift stores, but she only walked out with two dresses and a pair of capri pants. I think she might wear one of those dresses to her party tonight. Go Mommy, it's ya' birthday...

Free birthday meal...that's what I'm talkin' about!

I came across this website with a list of restaurants that give free meals on your birthday. I'm not sure of how old the list is, but I'm sure some these restaurants still do the free birthday meal thing. It comes in handy because I was planning on taking Mommy Cheap Chica out to breakfast tomorrow morning for her birthday. I'm so glad that Ihop was on this list, lol!

I guess noone's posting on my message board but me...

In case y'all didn't notice, I do have a message board and the button in on here (The Forum). I know it needs a little work done to it like pictures and stuff like that, but I'm getting there. Holla!

My Do's and Don'ts of Bargain Shopping

Yes, I'll admit, I'm one of those people that walk right to the clearance rack in a store. I don't give a damn. I'd rather find tons of bargains than walk out of the store with one item that cost a couple hundred dollars. To me, bargain shopping is an adventure. It's like you have to prepare for it in advance (I do at least). Here are my do's and don'ts for bargain shopping:

1. DO eat before you shop. Plenty of times I went shopping without eating and I turned into the biggest bitch halfway through the shopping trip ( I get cranky when I don't eat). If you're in a hurry, take a small bag of chips or something to snack on.

2. DO check online to see if there are any coupons to your favorite stores before you go (or you could check here for the weekly printable coupons). Even if the coupon is for 10% off, a little helps a lot. Also, DO stick with your budget. If you only plan to spend $50 on clothes, stick with it. Good if you're under budget, bad if you're over.

3. DON'T go nuts. I know seeing all of those bargains are a bit overwhelming, but stick with buying something that you could use, don't just get it because it's cheap. Trust me, I've made that mistake before and I still have some of those mistakes hanging in my closet with the price tags still attached-from two years ago! Not good.

4. DO inspect the garments for rips, stains, etc. If it's something that you think you could repair, ask the salesperson if they give damage discounts. Usually, it's 10% off and the sale is final at that point, but who cares? You got a mega deal that doesn't take much to fix. DON'T buy it if the damage is unrepairable. It's not really a deal if you're not going to be able to wear it.

5. And last, but not least, DO enjoy your purchases. Only you can make a bargain outfit look like a million bucks.

My Under $5 Find

Found these at Dollar General...that's right, thee Dollar General. Normally, I'd go in there and find things I need for my house and don't even look at the apparel, but these just happen to catch my eye. They were only $4, and being the flip flop girl that I am, I had to get them. I don't have a coral-colored pair of flops (gasp!), so these were perfect.

My New Purse...for this month

It's no secret that Walmart is pretty much my favorite store. But Walmart gets me into trouble sometimes. I go in there with my list of groceries to get and end up walking out of there with clothing, accessories, or shoes. And that's exactly what happened today when me and Mr. Cheap Chica went there. I ended up buying this purse for $9.00*. Now, I'm not gonna lie, I did need a new purse even though I buy a new one every month, but I've been eyeing this one for a while. I was just waiting for the price to come down (hey, I'm cheap, sorry!), and it did. Patience is everything.

*Note: Online price is $12.96. Try going into your local Walmart, it might be on clearance. Different stores have different prices.

Bargain Item of the Week 4-9-06

Okay, I'm stepping away from the bargain shoes for a moment. Now, I'm not a big fan of dresses, but when I saw this one, it looked like something I would give a try. I love the color and details, but I like the price even better.

Floral Belted Dress $18.50, Wet Seal

Oh My God, the Cheap Chica didn't spend any money today...Just Kidding!!!

Saturdays are usually me and Mr. Cheap Chica's day to go shopping and I almost came thisclose to not buying anything at all. But Target was calling my name and I just had to go. I ended up buying a green shirt to match my flip flops I made the other day (see post "My DIY Project: Flip Flops), and a black tunic-length tank. I didn't spend too much, though. The damage was only $15. Mr. Cheap Chica was so proud of me. Lately, I haven't been in the mood to go shopping (gasp!). I'll snap out of it pretty soon, I hope.

Swapstyle Update #3: I got my swap!

I got my item in the mail today and I love it! The shipping was prompt and the item was in great condition. Not bad for a free item. I emailed my swapping partner and thanked her for the fast shipping and gave her a token, a positive one. Now that i've had an excellent first time swapping experience, I will be hitting up this site left and right. Hey, free clothes, why not?

Old Navy Flip Flops: the "little black dress" of the shoe world

They say that a girl can never have enough shoes. In my case, I can never have enough Old Navy flip flops. I practically live in flip flops all year round since I'm here in the Sunshine State, but the classic ones from Old Navy are always my flip flop of choice. They just about go with anything and there are many colors to choose from. Since they're only 2 for $5, I always stock up on the white ones because a) they always sell out of the white ones-in store and online, b) white gets so dirty and I don't like wearing dirty flip flops, and c) duh, they're 2 for $5. What a great price for good quality flip flops.

Also, when I'm feeling a bit crafty, I get my trusty glue gun and some sequins or beads and create my own stylish pair. I refuse to pay an insanely high price for some flops that I could make myself. I know it doesn't take much to just glue on some embellishments, but as long as there's a designer label slapped on it, people are gonna run out and buy them.

Like I said, I wear these babies everywhere (not everywhere. I know when and where they are
appropriate) I enjoy the benefits of them-they're comfortable, they're versatile, and they're inexpensive. Just what I like.

Thrift Score- I love Second Act Thrift Store

While me and Mr. Cheap Chica were out and about today, we stopped in one of my favorite thrift stores here in my neck of the woods called Second Act. I love this thrift store because, not only do they have really cool stuff, but all of the proceeds go to helping victims of domestic violence and victims of sexual assault.Everyday, they are always having in-store specials and today was 50% off day. Yes! I found these neat vintage acrylic, pastel bracelets. I got eight of them for $2.00! I didn't have time to browse through the whole store because Mr. Cheap Chica was getting impatient, but I'm sure I'll have time to look next week-by myself.
