Today's Quiz: What fun fashion designer should you wear?

You Should Wear Moschino

Classic European glamour with a girlish flair

Would you wear this shirt?

I love Wet Seal and all, but this shirt is just downright tacky. I'm sure I'll see somebody walking around with this shirt on pretty soon, and you know what their excuse would be, "oh, I just love that Nelly Furtado song, I'm not really promiscuous." Riiiiiiight. For those of you who care and actually like this shirt, it's $14.50.

Lunch break shopping: Wet Seal clearance belts

I guess my next organization project will be for my belts. I have ran out of room to hang them, so I have a drawer specifically for sash belts and scarves. On my lunch break today, I stopped into Wet Seal and got both of these belts for $6.50. Oh how I love those additional percentages off clearance.

  1. black patent cinch belt $4
  2. blue belt $2.50

Do you like?

I kinda want these. I kinda don't. I really don't wear blue too much, so these probably won't mix well into my wardrobe . I was thinking of getting these in black, but blue is such a refreshing color...

Old Navy's weekend bargain blow-out sale

I made a promise to myself that I was going to stop shopping until we make that move to Orlando next year. Ha! While out shopping for my dog, Napoleon, the Old Navy just happened to be right next door to the pet store. Thinking I was just going in to browse around, I ended up buying six tops and a pair of capris. No big deal. I only spent $24. That's because there's a sale going on- take an additional 50% off all clearance. I don't know if it's going on in all stores, but you could check with your local store to find out. Here are some of my finds. I have no self-control when it comes to shopping.

Capris $5

Black button down shirt $3.50.

Chiffon trimmed tank $2. Detailing of tank

Brown and green racerback tanks $2 each

Thrift score

I almost forgot about the cropped vest I bought from the Goodwill two weeks ago until I read this post from Hip Candy. It's brand new and was only $3! I don't know what to wear with it, though. Perhaps a white button down with cropped pants? I don't know. I guess I'll keep looking in the fashion mags for inspiration.

Today's video clip: Tyra Banks' deja vu

Since I didn't have time to watch television Friday, I missed Beyonce on the Tyra Banks Show. Tyra did a spoof of Beyonce's video, Deja Vu. Here's the clip. It's cute. Enjoy!

Jewelry organization

Since I have the rest of this week off from work, I decided to do a little organization around the house. First thing on the list- my jewelry. I had everything pretty much thrown into a large shoe box- necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. Everthing was a tangled mess and sometimes I didn't feel like rummaging through the stuff to accessorize an outfit. I remembered that Target had some asian inspired jewelry holders in their dollar spot section. I made a trip over there and got two of them. They're $2.50 each, and they also have them in red.

I put all of my earrings in this one...

all of my bracelets in this one. I wish these trays were bigger because I have a lot of freakin' bracelets. Oh well, they're in a better place than where they were at before.

I wandered over to the home improvement section and grabbed some utility hooks for my necklaces. As you can see below, the end result. Hey, they still might get tangled, but at least I'm not digging a tangled mess out of a shoe box, lol.

Utility hook $4.99

I ended up throwing some necklaces away because they were broken , but it's all good. I'm just glad that I don't have to search and spend hours untangling them anymore.

Homemade Beauty: Sugar body scrub

This recipe was taken from Cosmopolitan's October 2006 issue:

What you need:
  1. 1/2 cup of brown sugar
  2. 1/4 cup of olive oil
  3. 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract (for fragrance)

Combine ingredients. Use the mixture on your body while in the shower. The sugar exfoliates, while the olive oil softens skin. Enjoy!

Vacation finds: I'm back, Chicas!!!!

I'm back from vacay, and I had a really great time. Our sole purpose of going to Orlando was to start looking around at different areas for our move next year. We spent about a day doing that and the rest of the time, we partied, went to see a show at the Orlando Improv, and shopped. I found a lot of things-very cheap. Here are some pics:

Top $3, Goodwill. The belt is mine. I thought it would look cool with the top since the top has silver threading in it (can't see in pic).

I got these two belts from a store called City Shoes, where they sell really cute trend shoes for $10.99 and up. The red one was $9.99, and the polka dot cinch belt was $3.99.

Gold wedges $10.99, City Shoes. I must have a million gold shoes in my closet. This pair makes a million and one, lol.

Silver and gold bamboo hoops $0.99 each, City Shoes

Brown capris $7.50, Sears. Sears was having an awesome sale on their clearance- take an additional 50% off. I bought these and a khaki pair of capris for $4.99.

Plaid capris $10, Target

Tunic top $7, Dots. I love that store. I thought this top was really cute, so I bought it. Looks really cute with jeans. I also bought a white pair of dressy capris for $7. What's up with all of the capris? I have no idea.

That's just some of the stuff I bought. I didn't want to post EVERYTHING because there's too many items to post, lol.

I'm on vacation....will be back Monday

Well, Chicas, I'm officially in vacation mode. I will be gone until Sunday. Until then, hit up some of my favorite blogs on the right sidebar to keep you entertained. So, in my famous Terminator voice, "I'll be back!" Ciao.

You can use WHAT for THAT?

My friend, Mary Jane, sent me an email of some things in your cupboards that can cure common ailments. Here are some of the items and remedies. I'm not sure if all of these work for everyone, so don't blame me if they don't (lol). I just find some of this stuff quite interesting.
  1. Stuffy nose: Instead of buying an inhaler to clear up a stuffy nose, trying chewing on Altoids peppermints.
  2. Sore throat: Mix 1/4 cup of vinegar and 1/4 cup of honey and take 1 tablespoon six times per day. The vinegar kills the bacteria.
  3. Splinter remover: Pour a drop of Elmer's glue over the splinter. Let dry and peel the glue off of the skin. The splinter should stick to the dried glue.
  4. Bruises: Soak a cotton ball in white vinegar and apply it to the bruise for an hour. It reduces the blueness and speeds up the healing process.
  5. Skin blemishes: Cover blemish with a dab of honey. Cover it with a band-aid.
  6. Headache: Drink two glasses of Gatorade.

Walmart's walkin' the walk

Never thought in a million years that I'd see Walmart fashions at NY Fashion Week. Click here to view the clip (spotted @ Hip Candy). The clip showcases the fall collection from George ME, by designer Mark Eisen, as well as fashions from Walmart's other lines- Metro 7 and No Boundaries. One question that the reporter asks is "will consumers shop for trendy clothes where they buy their hardware and groceries?" Ha! I've been doing it for years (okay, not that long). Do your thing Wally World! You can also read here about Walmart and Elle magazine opening NY Fall Fashion Week with "Rock the Runway".

"Less shopping = better style?" as told by Style Bytes

I, being the shopaholic that I am, can relate to this post from Style Bytes:

A few months ago Style Tribe had a project going on where she avoided shopping for I think about two weeks. I admired the strength she showed but never really dared to try it myself. A few days ago I realized that because of a busy schedule I hadn’t been shopping for about two weeks either. Usually I have this urge for going shopping most of the time. Now my money is gone anyway (strange how the money disappears no matter if I’m shopping or not) so it’ll be about a week until I am even able to go shopping again. That will be three weeks without shopping! The constant urge is gone. Maybe I’m cured for my shopaholic tendencies?
The biggest change I’ve noticed is that I am starting to appreciate my wardrobe in a whole new way. Lately I have been wearing some items that I’ve never or hardly ever worn. I’m starting to put together things in new ways. I’m starting to realize how much cool stuff I actually have. May it be so that less shopping will assure a better style? In stead of buying new things to wear all the time, which often may lead to an overly trendy look, I may become more creative. The time I spend with my old clothes may make me see what I really need in stead of what I want. And the money I save may let me spend more money on the things I actually buy instead buying low quality items.
I find the thought intriguing and it makes me kind of happy to be broke so that I can see where it takes me. Maybe I’m all wrong but if I’m not it’s a great lesson to learn. I just wonder how long it will take before I get that feeling that my world is going to collapse unless I run over to H&M for a quick look.

There was a time a couple of years ago that I didn't shop for three months (gasp!). I couldn't. I had no job. So all of the clothes that I've had in my closet that was hardly getting worn saw the light of day again. When I lacked the funds to buy something new, I got creative. The clothes that still had tags on them were now being worn, and the clothes that I wore once and never wore again were being worn again. To me, it felt like I've had on something "new", but it was just put together in a different way. It certainly has helped me save money, even though I cheat sometimes with all these great deals I find, lol.

Lunch break shopping: Wet Seal. Style this

I went to the mall today to find an outfit to wear for a night on the town when I go on vacation next week. I saw this top last night at Wet Seal, and I should've gotten it while they still had my size. I went in there today hoping that they still had it, and my size was gone. Phooey. They had this top in the window on display, and I really liked it, but, my size was gone. I looked around the store and found this top:

Burgundy kimono top, $14.50. Has different color polka dots on it. As you can see, the gold polka dots stand out.

I was thinking about wearing super dark denim jeans with it and dress it up with gold accessories and gold heels. Any suggestions? I'm looking for other alternatives. Holla!

Weekend Finds: Goodwill and "The hole-in-the wall" shoe store

I didn't do anything this weekend. I'm in one of my reclusive moods. I did get up and go to the Goodwill just to browse around. Not having much money on me, I ended up buying a Mossimo cropped vest for $3. I like it. I looks good IRL.

I actually bought these heels on Friday at what I call a "hole in the wall" shoe store. I always go to stores like this when I'm out of Chicaville, but I never knew that one existed here. What led me into the store was the "shoes $3.99 & up" sign that they had outside. This store doesn't have a name other than "Shoe Repair". When I walked in there, I was overwhelmed with all sorts of trendy shoes, belts, and handbags. Prices ranged from $3.99 to $9.99 and they had an awesome assortment. Cheap Chicas like me could use a store like this in Chicaville because the shoes are trendy, stylish, and well below budget.
