Steve and Barry's files for bankruptcy (yeah, yeah, I know, I'm late)

Steve & Barry's LLC, once a growing force in low-priced fashion retailing, said Wednesday that it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, the latest merchant to succumb to a harsh consumer spending climate.
It also announced that it was considering a plan to sell all or some of its assets to repay outstanding debt, and was eliminating 172 corporate and field staff positions immediately. Wendi Kopsick, a spokeswoman for the company, said no decision had been made about how many stores it would close.

U gots to be kidding! I just started gong to STeve and Barry's and found a great location outside of Chicago!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm pissed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I better go rack up on some items this weekend. Maybe they will have a going out of business sale and do a 2 for one at 8.98!!!

I am so disappointed to hear this! I really thought Steve & Barry's was going to do big things, especially since their items are so affordable... especially their sneakers (i.e. the Starbury Line).

How disappointing! Steve & Barry's was a great resource for T-shirts and loungewear. It also made a lot of parents lives easier. They had a good selection of affordable kids play clothes.
