Would you carry this bag?

Here's the scenario. My fashionista aunt decided to give me my birthday present a little early this year . Although I appreciate the kind gesture and I'm glad she thinks about me every year, I have a slight problem with the present. It's a fake "Gucci" bag. How do I know it's fake? She only paid $50 for it from a fleamarket. $50 for a Gucci bag? It can't be real.

Sidenote: Now my "designer way vs. Cheap Chica way" posts are "designer inspired" versions of designer items. That's just my way of showing you that you can get in on the trend for a lot less. But there's a difference between designer inspired and a counterfeit. Designer inspired items don't have the name of it's inspiration plastered all over it and try to pass as the real thing. I just wanted to throw this sidenote in because I know there's going to be somebody out there calling me a hypocrite. End sidenote.

So anyway, like I said, I thanked my aunt and I appreciate the gift, but I'm kind of a little self-conscious about carrying it around. I love the color and the shape of it, but I don't want anyone calling me out on it either, lol. It does have "Gucci" plastered all over it. I know there are some people out there who don't care about carrying around fake bags. They feel that they've gotten a deal on it and noone would be able to tell the difference. I have no problem with that, but I myself would feel a little silly. Here's the bag:
Would you carry it?

if you decide not to keep it, you should offer it on the swap, i would take it :) it's a beautiful bag!

and i have inherited some fake (and some probably fake) purses. one is an LV messenger bag, i don't carry it around much because personally I find LV monogram to be a bit tacky and too "look at me! i'm carrying an LV bag!," but I do love my Chanel bag that was my grandmother's. If anyone ever asks me if they are fake (which is a very tacky question BTW) I say "well, it was a gift, so it better not be!".

Yeah...I would carry it. It's cute and the thought behind it was great. Plus, I dare somebody to call me out on fake bag!!! I have a Black Gucci shoulder bag that's fake. I BOUGHT it for like $20 at an expo. It's my best black bag. I carry it all the time. Don't worry about the haters and the people who want to "call" you out. They would do it if you bought a crazy expensive authentic bag and you are the ultimate Cheap Chica. Oh, they would be all in ya!! lol!

Rock that present and think of Auntie when you do:)

I can understand your reason behind this one. First of all , is it your style of bag?? It's a cute bag, I would carry it, maybe not so often, but I would rock it from time to time. Like Mary said, it's tacky when people ask, "Is it real?"Just give them the side eyed look and keep on walking.

Thats actually a really cute one... i was expecting the typical canvas ones you see everyone carrying... at least this isn't common enough (like the canvas ones) for someone to tell it's fake... personally - i know my knock offs fairly well and this one would make me curious becuase i'd never seen a gucci like that - but i wouldn't assume it was fake.. i say carry it and if anyone asks, say your aunt gave it to you - it's the truth! Lol no need for detail ;)

I had a Louis Vuitton bag that was fake. I had no problem wearing it. lol
It was actually a pretty good looking fake at that.

If you personally have a problem with it, don't wear... SALE IT!
I'd wear it though.

I wouldn't carry it. I own a 100% authentic LV bag (I know this because I bought myself at an LV store & have the big LV receipt to prove it) that I rarely carry. There's so much fake LV out there that everyone assumes my bag is fake too. Being self-conscious ruins your style. Leave it at home!

I wouldn't carry it. I really dislike fake designer bags. I think the whole point in getting a high-end bag isn't for the label but the quality of the product. If you're not a "label whore" now, it wouldn't seem to really be your style. Especially if you're already wondering about what people would think...you don't want something to get in the way of your swagger :)

I cannot stand fake designer bags, usually they scream fake and are very cheap looking, but this one looks really cute! If it were me, I'd carry it around. Especially here in bum-F8ck WV where no one can tell the difference to call me out on it. =)

I say, wear the purse. Though it's knockoff Gucci bag, it's still a present. Any gift as nice as that bag should be worn. It's a beautiful handbag, who cares, if its a fake. Honestly, I would be unable to tell the difference :)

The only way that I would is if no one could tell it was fake. But for $50 it cant be that good of a "knockoff". I would re-gift it or swap it like another commenter suggested

There is no way in the world that I would ever carry that bag anywhere. Despite the fact that its a counterfeit, which is illegal and supports terrorists, it looks fake and its not even a design that Gucci ever made, which makes it ten times worse. You don't need a ridiculously expensive bag to be fly but that right there just screams "I can't afford the authentic, so I'm just going to rock this painfully obvious fake one." I know your aunty bought that for you and all, but I would bury that waaaay in the back of the closet.

Hi doll!
Personally, I would not carry it. I have this thing where if I can't have the real thing, then I'll wait til I can get it or do without.. However, since this is a gift, I think you should probably carry it maybe a few times when you know you'll see or be around your aunt. But after a while, I'd sell it at the swap or ebay or something similar. And it's so funny that you posted this today as I just posted a blog similar in topic. Check it out...

I really don't think it matters. If you like the bag, carry it!

There is always going to be a designer knockoff market for just about everything. It's not going to go away. Plus it really ain't that serious. It a freakin bag....ya now!

That designer bag ain't saving nobody life, in fact I'm sure there is a whole lot of cheap sweatshop labor and illegal killing of reptiles and other exotic animal for there skins to make those "designer original" bags. But nobody thinks about that when they self-righteous claims how politically correct they are for carrying a designer handbag. Give me a break!

The designers are still making money hand over fist. If they priced their bags at a reasonable price under $300 dollars - there would be no need for a "knockoff" marketplace, but they refuse to do that, so I don't feel no loyalty whatsoever! No shame in my game, I would rock it!

It's very possible that the bag is real...I would do some research on the bag first and obviously look at the quality. But if it was brought at a flea market I would say yes it's possible a designer handbag could be sold there. Plus like another commenter said the design on that Gucci Bag is very distinctive and not one likely targeted for knockoffs.

I wouldn't carry it...as far as I know, that style was never actually made by Gucci so it's not even a "good" fake. But to each their own!
