The Cheap Chica's "spendervention" @ Marshalls

So what do you call a spending intervention? A spendervention, and I know some people that definitely need one (ahem, fashionista aunt), lol. Marshalls and TJ Maxx are spreading the word about their "Spendervention" campaign (I'm sure you've seen the commercials by now) and showing us that there is a better way to shop and that we never have to pay too much for fashion by shopping off-price stores. I don't buy too many designer items, but when I do, it's usually from an off-price store such as Marshalls, TJ Maxx, or Ross. I made a trip over to my local Marshalls last week to check out the new summer merchandise. Maxi dresses and jumpsuits galore. Now, my summer wardrobe this year is going to consist of nothing but dresses and skirts, so I peeped a few. I must've came too late because all of the size larges/x-larges in the dresses were gone.

[pics taken with camera phone. sorry for the blur] these are the dresses that I liked. None were in my size. Grr.

I then went over to the Shoe MegaShop to see what summer footwear they had in. I loved everything they had, but my eyes were on these cute gladiator heels from Madden Girl. They would've been the perfect going out shoe, but again, my size was nowhere to be found. I doubt if they get more in. $25 is a great price. But that's a con to shopping off price. If you see something you like, you better get it right then. In my case, I just came too late, lol.

Thirty minutes later, I walk out with a cute sundress and a flowy boho blouse:

  • top $14.99
  • dress $16.99. I try to stay away from tube dresses, but I love the print. I will wear a cropped cardigan/bolero over it to hide my arms and shoulders.

Maybe this weekend I will check out TJ Maxx to see what new merchandise they have in. I'm in the mood for a new handbag and maybe some stuff for my new home. What's the best bargain you ever found at Marshalls?

I looooooove Marshalls and I want to go today to see if those Madden Girl shoes are at my local store. I love the fact that the stores are clean and well-organized. I love both pieces that you picked up. I'll definitely report back when I visit. TJ Maxx is awesome too, I especially love their home items.

And that dress is going to be so cute on you! I would wear it with funky jewelry and a denim jacket, maybe one with shorter sleeves. I have a lightweight denim shirt from that I got from Marshalls a long time ago that works like a dream with all of my sleeveless tops. Its in heavy rotation in the summertime.

Girl, those Gladiator sandals are grand.I bet the store staff just used their discounts and scooped up all of the "common" sizes.
DO the little airplane arm exercises like from elementary school during the day when you have free momentss --you would be plesantly surprised at how that simple but steady action done each day tones arms. I saw great tone in a month and a half just from that.

U are so on point! I love Marshalls.. But as usual, the story of my life, the closest one is an hour away from me. Although there is a TJMaxx, I hate to go in there because you have to search. I, of all people, need a shopping intervention.LOL. I can find great bargains on designer wear for clients; but not for me. I always spend way too much for the real deal and most of the time it's not on sale. Why is that???hmmmmmm... Maybe I'll blog about that??hahahhaha

I love your purchases Chica! I went into TJ Maxx today to check out their shoes section and they had some nice steve madden sandals but the size 7 was of course gone. I do like their stuff though, I plan on stopping in there this weekend.

Don't worry Chica, you didn't go late. When it comes to TJ Maxx and Marshalls, you just have to browse the racks often so you don't miss out on those great prices or popular sizes (like size 9 shoes). I haven't been in Marshalls in a while because I've been raiding TJ Maxx (for designer pieces) and Ross (for wonderful dresses under $20)! I snagged the cutest Franco Sarto snake skin/d'orsay/open-toe/kitten heel shoes from TJ Maxx in a 9. They were only $29.99 and after wearing them like crazy for one week, I'd say I'm well on my way to getting my money's worth out of them. :)
