Spotlight on.... GlassesUSA.com

Everyone who wears eyeglasses know that buying a pair could be pretty expensive. I don't wear glasses that much except for in the evenings before I go to bed or if it's a lazy day and I don't feel like putting my contacts in. I wanted a pair of "cuter" glasses- a more fashionable pair because my current pair just isn't cutting it. But, they're good to have just in case a contact rips or my lazy butt forgets to order more contacts (I'm really bad at that). The lovely folks over at GlassesUSA contacted me and offered to send me a free pair and of course, I jumped on the opportunity.

The style that I'm wearing in the pic is called "Freedom", and I love them. Ordering prescription eyeglasses from the site is pretty easy- all you do is pick what style frame you want, put in your prescription info, and voila! Done and done. The prices that you see are for the frames AND the lense. Unless you want thin or polycarbonate lenses, you would have to pay extra. Not bad for a pair of glasses. Under $100, I can most definitely live with that. The only con about ordering the glasses online is that you can't try on the frames to see how they fit your face (duh!). But, if you're a pro at trying on different styles and you know what works for you, then you should've have a problem picking out a pair from the nice selection that GlassesUSA have to offer. I was hoping and praying that this style fit my face because a lot of glasses with this style frame don't fit right. They are either too tight or just look to small for the shape of my face (I have a big face, lol). I'm so happy that they fit and they look so cute on me- I think so at least, lol.

I got my glasses back in about a week and a half after ordering, and they were packaged neatly in a hard storage case along with a soft lense cloth. The glasses are very lightweight and comfortable, and I love the stylish eyeglass frames. Like I said before, buying eyeglasses can get pretty expensive, especially if you're on a tight budget. If you always wanted to get a stylish new pair of glasses without putting a dent in your wallet, then GlassesUSA may be for you.

Oh, I almost forgot.... use coupon code Mommy5 to get 5% off of your order. There is no expiration for this offer.

Cheap Chica's Topic Tuesday: Did you keep your "no-spend" promise?

One of my New Year's resolutions for this year was to shop my closet more and try not to spend any money on new clothes. Hey, I'm human, and everyone knows that new year's resolutions are hard to keep. So far this year, I've spent about $300 on new clothes, shoes, and accessories. I've been doing good with shopping my closet, but when I see a deal that's too good to pass up, I get it. Shame on me. I've got to do better. What about you? Have broke your "no spend/ spend less promise"? Discuss.

Tips to score back-to-school clothes on the cheap!

It's that time again- back to school shopping! Nowadays, a lot of people don't have a lot of funds to work with, so here are some tips that will help you save money on your kids' and teens' back to school wardrobe:

  1. 1.Shop the clearance racks (this is a no-brainer). During these summer months, spring/summer clothes go on clearance to make room for the fall apparel. Great deals to be found!

  2. Shop off-price. If your kids are into designer labels, don't fret. Score some inexpensive pieces at stores such as Marshalls (The Cube is a department full of designer labels geared toward teens/ young adults), TJ Maxx, Loehmanns, and Stein Mart.
  3. Hold a swap party. Don't throw your kiddies clothes out yet. Invite fellow moms over for drinks and appetizers. Throw all your unwantables into a big pile and swap away. Teens, take note also.

  4. Thrift. Plato's Closet is a great place for teens/young adults to score some cute, gently worn clothes on the cheap. And, if you have some stuff that you want to get rid of, you can sell them to Plato's for cash or store credit. Also, check your local Goodwill or Salvation Army for their weekly sales.
  5. Use coupons (another no-brainer). Google your favorite stores for printable coupons and codes. Check here also. You know ya' girl always hook you up as well. Don't leave the house without one!

Happy shopping!

Cheap Chica 's Topic Tuesday: Do you lie about the price you paid?

Yes, I do realize it is Wednesday and Topic Tuesday should've been done yesterday, lol. I'll be on time next week.

This week's topic of discussion:

"Do you ever lie about the price you pay for your clothes/shoes?'

I used to do this a lot when I was younger. If I got a shirt from Ross, TJ Maxx, etc. and someone complimented me and asked the price of it, I would add at least another $20-30 on to how much I really paid for it. At that time, it was all about impressing people, making it seem like I had so much money (yeah right), and being embarrassed about how much I really paid forit. Now, I'm like screw it. If someone ask me how much I paid for something now, I proudly tell them $5, $10... you get where I'm coming from. Discuss.

Weekend Finds. . .Girlprops and other accessory hunts

Good morning stars!

This weekend I kinda went accessory-crazy. A friend and I had a lunch date in the West Village, and decided to take a trip to the Girlprops store, a favorite website for lots of the bloggers and fashionistas, myself included.

Let me tell you that the store is very. . .bright, and has a colorful bunch of people working there. Most of what's on the website can be found in the store, and even more eclectic pieces can be found in-store. I wanted to take pics, but it's not allowed in the store, which is understandable. There were some things that were cheaper in the store, and some things that I remembered being cheaper on the website, but that wasn't to big a deal to me because the shipping would probably balance that out. I spent $23. . .and here's what I got.

These 2 rings were $1.99 each.

My girlfriend loved these glasses; I tried them on and liked them too. $9.99

Forgive this shiny, early morning pic. Me without my makeup, LOL

Now these were just weird, and different. So I had to have them. $1.99 too.

Now in my job, I can't go as wild with my earrings as I normally do, so I LOVE that the button earring trend has come back. I bought these mainly to wear to work. $2.99

Overall, I loved my trip to GirlProps, and will definitely return. Anyone who loves the site, or "inexpensive" jewelry should make a point to visit if ever near or visiting NY.

Now I found these pairs en route to GirlProps. The street vendor told us he made them himself. I love "negotiating" prices on the street, and we talked him into 3 pair for $5. My girlfriend grabbed a few cute pairs as well.

These final pair were found at a little store in Jersey City near Journal Square. I had never been down JFK Blvd, but I'm glad I took that turn on Saturday morning. I found a bunch of little clothing stores, beauty supply stores, and a Goodwill! I was too excited, but I didn't have enough time to explore so I'm adding that to my list of shopping adventures. Anyway, here are the 2 pairs. $1 each.

Closeup of the heart-shaped pair:

So that was my weekend, hope yours was full of fabulous finds as well!

Christian Siriano for Payless now available to buy

Christian Siriano's line for Payless is now available to buy on the website, but don't get excited just yet. So far, there are only two styles available for purchase. I can't wait to see the other styles whenever they hit the store. I'm feeling these two, though.

"Strut" pump $34.99. I'm loving the chain detail

Sandstrap peep toe (also available in black) $34.99. Very sexy shoe.

I haven't seen these in my local stores yet. Have they hit your stores yet? What do you think of the above styles so far?

What I wore: Bold floral

Summer in Florida is never a great time of the year. The humidity is HORRIBLE! I've been wearing nothing but skirts and dresses, and Thursday I wore one of my favorite skirts- you know that floral skirt from Kmart I just had to have, lol. I try not to overaccessorize when I have on a bold print. I just added a yellow necklace and a couple of bracelets to complete the look.

  • puff sleeve tee $8, Old Navy
  • skirt $12.50, KMart
  • Mossimo wedge sandals $12.50(?), Target
  • necklace and bracelets (?), Wet Seal and Dots

Weekend finds: Miley Cyrus ruffle top and No Doubt tee

I realized I'm late posting my weekend finds. The weekend is almost here again. Oops!
On my weekly trip to Walmart, I decided to pick up that Miley Cyrus/ Max Azria ruffle blouse that I liked. Since I was kind of in a rush, I just threw the top in the cart and went about my business, not even stopping to try in on. I'm going to get enough of doing that, because when I finally got around to trying in on, I was a little disappointed.

Lovely top, just doesn't fit me right. Oh well, back to the store it goes. Has anyone tried on any of the clothes from the Miley Cyrus/Max Azria line yet?

Since I'm a big fan of No Doubt, I had to have this tee. It was only $10. Walmart also carries Rolling Stone totes with different magazine covers on them as well. I bought the Kurt Cobain tote a couple of months ago. You can also get a free 12-month subscription to the magazine when you fill out the subscription card attached to the price tag on the tees/totes. Sweet!

Cheap Chica Fashion Confessions Part 1

C'mon Ladies. . .what are some of the crazy things you've done in the name of fashion? Even cheap chicas lose their cool sometimes. I'll start, leave your responses in the comments section.

*I leave the house with a certain amount of money each day, in addition to carfare and my emergency credit card. There have been times where I spent my lunch money on makeup or shoes. That's a result of my lunchtime browsing at Marshalls, Target, or CVS.

*I once spent $40 in the dollar store

*I'm a big re-gifter. Sometimes before holidays I dig through my closet and see what still has tags on it.
