Designer way vs. Cheapalicious way

Who would've thought you'd find a Louboutin-inspired sandal at Spiegel?  The details are almost identical to the real thing- the "Macarena" wedge.  Snag yourself a pair for $64!

A Cheapalicious closet: Repeat offender

Yep, you've seen this outfit before.  Everything's the same except for the shoes and the bracelets.  I love brown and turquoise worn together.  So pretty!  Notice that I have on turquoise nail polish.  My outfit matching my nails was not intentional (lol).  I'm just trying out my new polish from Sally Hansen that I bought over the weekend.  This color is called Mint Sprint and I love it!  The picture doesn't do the color any justice- it's actually more green than blue.  I've been wearing this polish with NYC Extra Shiny topcoat since Sunday and so far so good.  No chips or wear at the tips.  This is my new favorite nail color for this season.

Topic Tuesday: What did you get from the $1 Outnet birthday sale?

I just have one question.  Were any of you lucky enough to score something from the Outnet's first birthday sale this past Friday?  I was upset that everything was sold out by 7:30 Friday morning, but oh well. The Outnet sent me an email today offering  free shipping on any purchase.  I guess that's their way of making it up to everyone who didn't get a chance to purchase anything from the birthday sale.   If you've scored something, what did you get?

Designer way vs. Cheapalicious way

Rock and Republic's "Nika" studded pump retails for $295 at Foot Candy Shoes and comes in an assortment of colors.  Such a hot, bad ass shoe!  Of course, if you're like me, and you love the look of the shoe, but hate the price tag, UrbanOg has a similar style (in an assortment of colors as well) for a little under $27.

A Cheapalicious closet: A more energized Monday

I'm feeling much, much better on this lovely Monday. Normally, I don't have the energy, but today, I'm really alert for some reason.  Maybe it was  because I didn't have to be in to work until 10 am, so I got a chance to sleep in.  That definitely helps.  I've decided to finally wear this skirt that I thrifted about two months ago.  I was drawn to the lovely print-brown and turquoise together are one of my favorite color combinations. I've added a few turquoise accessories to bring out the turquoise in the skirt, and threw on my favorite gladiator wedges.

brown tee $4, Family Dollar; skirt $3.50, Goodwill; gladiator wedge sandals $7, Charlotte Russe; necklace $7, bracelets $4, and ring $4, all Charlotte Russe.  I later removed the turquoise bracelet.  For some reason that extra bracelet was a little too much.

Weekend finds: I wanted Cynthia, but got Saniya instead

Sometimes, I don't know why I waste my time going to my local Target to see if any of the designer collaborations are there.  I went there today to see if the Cynthia Vincent collection was there, and guess what?  No!  Why am I not surprised?  However, I did see the Liberty of London collection there (gasp!), and the racks were full.  That makes me wonder if a) the collection was just now arriving to the store although it was released early last month (it sure as hell wasn't there the last time I was in Target); b)  maybe noone's feeling the pieces in the collection; or c) maybe the collection has come in since the last time I've been in there (which was late March), sold out, then they restocked the racks.  No matter what the deal is, I was happy to see a designer collaboration there.

I was hoping that the Cynthia Vincent for Target collection would be there because I wanted to try on the cognac gladiator sandals and the tribal print ballet flats. Sure, I could've ordered them online while they still had them in stock and returned them later if I weren't happy with them, but by the time I got online this morning, my size was gone.  I could buy them off Ebay, but I don't want them that bad.

I ended up buying a pair of the Xhilaration "Saniya" flats.  The studded detail caught my eye..

They are exactly like the cobalt blue ones that I bought a couple of months ago, and I love them.  A fab addition to my wardrobe!

To everyone who got a chance to see the Cynthia Vincent for Target collection in person, what did you think of it?  Which style(s) did you buy?

My cheapalicious hair products- part 2

A long while ago, I told you about my favorite cheapalicious hair products.  Since then, I've changed up my hair care regimen and added a few more products to my arsenal.  These products are staples, and I'm not giving them up anytime soon (unless they discontinue them).  The majority of the products that I use on my hair are very inexpensive (some under $5!) and that proves that it doesn't matter how much a product costs, but what works for your hair.

Palmer's Coconut Oil Protein Pack, a little under $2 at most drugstores:  I usually use ORS Replenishing Conditioner to deep condition my locks, but when I bought this one day on a whim from Target, I was in love.  The protein in the conditioner gives my hair the strength that it needs, and my hair smells like coconut for days.  Definitely a keeper.

One n' Only Argan Oil Treatment $9, Sally's Beauty Supply:  As long as Sally's keeps selling this stuff, I will continue to buy!  If you don't want to spend the money on the MoroccanOil, then this is a great alternative (see my earlier post here).  A little definitely goes a long way (that's all you need), and it leaves my hair so shiny and smooth- frizz free!  I use this to protect my ends when I flat iron, and the results are amazing.

Suave Professionals Almond and Shea Butter Moisturizing shampoo, less than $3 at most drugstores:  Whenever it's my shampoo day, I alternate between a protein shampoo and a moisturizing shampoo, so when I don't use my Aphogee Shampoo for Damaged Hair ( a protein shampoo), I use this moisturizing shampoo from Suave.  I received a free bottle in the mail a couple months ago, and I haven't put it down.  It leaves my hair so soft and it doesn't weigh it down.  It's supposed to moisturize as well as Aveda's Dry Remedy shampoo, but I've never used Aveda products before, so I really can't draw a comparison.  This shampoo does the job for me.  I actually like it better than my Aphogee Deep Moisture shampoo.

Aphogee Pro-Vitamin Leave-In  Conditioner $7, Sally's Beauty Supply: This will always be one of my hair care staples. Not only does it do a great job of detangling, but it helps strengthen the hair and stops breakage.

Fantasia Hair Polisher Styling Gel with Sparkle Lites $4.50, Walgreens:  When I want my edges to lay down, I grab this stuff.  I love that it's alcohol free (doesn't dry my hair out), and it doesn't leave a flaky mess like most styling gels do.  It gives me just the right amount of hold and my hair isn't too stiff or hard.  I love it!

What are your favorite cheapalicious hair products?

Disclaimer:  These products were bought with my own money and are not samples.

A Cheapalicious closet: Sunday best

It's been a while since I've been to church on a Sunday.  I normally attend the Thursday night service every week, but since I missed this past Thursday, I went this morning. Nothing like some great motivation and inspiration to get you through life.  I decided to wear my new dress that the lovely folks at DressBarn sent me. I love the floral border print and the bolero that came with it really brings out the coral flowers.  I went light on the accessories ( just my gold hear pendant and matching bracelet) and finished the look with a neutral  heel.

dress, free courtesy of Dress Barn. I believe this particular style is $59.99, but you can check your local store to make sure.; cork peep toe pumps $20, Payless.  I've had these shoes forever. I bought them two years ago, and today was my first time wearing them. Wow; necklace $3, Payless; bracelet $1, Country Dollar

If you're planning on stopping by DressBarn to check out their lovely selection of spring dresses, here's a coupon to save yourself 20% off any regular priced item!

Goodwill hunting: More goodies from the "hole in the wall"

Just a few items I found on a recent trip to my "hole in the wall" Goodwill...

  • Old Navy striped top $3.49: I was looking for a striped top for this season's nautical trend. If I would've known that I'd find this top at the thrift store, I've wouldn't have ordered this one from Target. Oh well. The top from Target arrived today and it doesn't fit me right at all. Back to the store it goes...
  • dress $5.98: This dress was brand new with tags. It's from Target's brand Xhilaration.
  • peasant top $3.49: For some reason, I love the print of this shirt, but the cut is too boxy. I'm going to belt it and wear with a pair of skinnies or bootcut jeans, and a pair of flat sandals. Boho chic!
  • vintage belt $0.99
  • sandals $4.99: These sandals were almost new- very minimal wear on the sole. I've been wearing them everyday since I bought them.

Cheap. Cheaper. Cheapest: Lace up gladiator sandal

Cheap:  DV by Dolce Vita "Delillah" sandal $75.75 (on sale), Shoes.com; Cheaper: "Mari" gladiatorCheapest:  "Lantana" gladiator $22.80, Forever 21 $42.90, Alloy;

Star style under $100: Ciara

Simple, but chic!  Here's my re-creation of her outfit using items from American Apparel, Arden B, and Urban Original.

Topic Tuesday: Shopping haul videos

If you're ever on YouTube, I'm sure you've seen hundreds and hundreds of shopping "haul" videos on there.  What are "haul" videos, you ask?  They are basically people making a video of all the purchases of their recent shopping trips.  My cousin and I were having a discussion about this sudden YouTube phenomenon.  She seems to think that haul videos are so annoying, and why anyone would sit there and watch ten minutes or more of some girl showing off her purchases from the mall is beyond her.  I myself enjoy haul videos (some of them).  In fact, a short while ago, I was thinking about doing my "weekend finds" posts in the form of videos instead of just outlining every detail in a post, but I scrapped that idea because I hate the sound of my voice (lol). I see nothing wrong with them.  I don't know, I like to see what others have bought and what great deals they've scored.  Some people also give ideas as to how they would incorporate their items into their wardrobes, and I think that's pretty cool.  What do you  think of haul videos? Do you think they're a complete waste of time and you could care less about what these people have bought?   Have you ever made a haul video? Discuss.

In case you still don't know what haul videos are, here are a couple that I've found from a couple of my favorite bloggers, Dulce Candy and Bargain Princess.

A Cheapalicious closet: Running errands

I had the day off today, so I decided to run some errands. It's so hot outside (well into the high 80's), but not muggy. In fact, it was a very beautiful day today. I should've took my butt to the beach, but I'll save that for another day. On a day like this, I just throw on my spring/summer uniform- a sundress (or a maxi dress) and flat sandals. I live in them.

closeup of ring

dress: Marshalls $16.99 (featured in this post). ; shrug: Kmart $6.  I don't like showing my shoulders because they're so broad, so I threw on this tie front shrug to hide them; sandals: Walmart $10.  I also have a tan pair (featured in this post).  They are so comfortable.; butterfly ring: Burlington Coat Factory $6; wood bracelet: flea market $1

Designer way vs. Cheapalicious way

I can't imagine paying close to $100 for a pair of jelly sandals, but they're Vera Wang, damnit!  If you love the look, but don't want to pay the price, Forever 21 has a more cheapalicious version.

Designer way vs. Cheapalicious way

You can find Giuseppe Zanotti's pyramid stud sandals for $572 at Farfetch.com.  Want to save yourself about $560 with a similar style?  Check out GoJane's version for about $12!

Current obsession: Rings

just a few rings in my collection

Lately, I've been really obsessed with rings.  For some reason, it seems that my outfits aren't quite complete unless I have on a nice piece of finger candy. If I spot an interesting looking ring, I'm buying it.  I buy my rings from mostly juniors' specialty stores like Wet Seal, Charlotte Russe, or Forever 21.  I've even found some cool ones at my local beauty supply store for like $1!  I love them, and I'm definitely going to add more to my collection.  Here are a few that I have my eyes on...

Asos at ShopStyle
leopard head ring $13.79, ASOS
Asos at ShopStyle
enamel parrot ring $17.24, ASOS
Topshop at ShopStyle
filigree flower ring $18, TopShop

black gem cluster ring $12, Torrid

Topshop at ShopStyle
large bow ring $20, TopShop
Wet Seal at ShopStyle
owl ring $7, Wet Seal

Charlotte Russe at ShopStyle
And you know I have to cop this one. Peacock prints are my favorite!  Only $4 at Charlotte Russe. What a steal!
