Target/Kohl's Weekend Haul

I hope everyone is having a great holiday weekend. As for me, I'm working, but I didn't let that stop me from checking out some great deals. I've been super busy between work, finding new work, and writing. On top of all that, I've challenged myself to shop my closet more, and to spend less money. It's going well so far, but a good deal is soooo hard to pass up.

I received an email from Kohl's that contained a shopping pass giving $5 off any in-store purchase, and 15% off any purchase. The best part? They could be combined! Of course, I browsed the clearance racks first. Nothing caught my eye, until I headed over to jewelry. For anyone who doesn't know, Kohl's carries great jewelry. Check out my finds:

My total: $23.80
After discounts ($5 off and 15% off): $16.54

According to my receipt, I saved $58.02

I was proud of myself for scoring cute jewelry for under $20.

After this, I went over to Target. I've been eyeing this bag:

It's pretty much a dupe of this Proenza-Schouler bag:

I wanted the green, but I settled for the off-white since it was the only one left.

Aaaaaand....it was marked down from $34.99. The tag said $24.98, but it scanned for $8.74!!! Score!!!

Star Style under $100: Hilary Duff

photo sourece: InStyle

Actress Hilary Duff, was spotted at the SoBe Try Everything Challenge wearing a pair of cobalt J Brand skinnies (a fave among celebs right now), plain white tank, beaded necklaces, and metal accented gladiator sandals.  Such a fun look!  Steal her look with the wallet friendly finds below.  You might be able to re-create this look with pieces from your own closet.  Cheapalicious!

scoopneck pocket tank $19.50, Land's End Canvas;  bright blue skinnies $15, High Gloss Fashion;  open toe shield sandal $16.30, Go Jane; beaded layered necklace $5.80, metal bangle $4.80, and teardrop stone necklace $6.80, Forever 21

Fab Find: Norma Kamali for Walmart block print tube skirt

I saw this skirt on Walmart's website a couple of months ago, and fell in love with it. At first, I was a little hesitant because me and form fitting skirts and dresses don't get along, so I put off ordering it. I totally forgot about it until I saw it featured in one of Penny Chic's posts and I loved how she styled it, so I went ahead and ordered it.  Hopefully, it fits me well, and I plan on wearing it with my my new thrifted Land's End black blazer, a bright tank for a pop of color, and some cute heels for a night look.  For seven bucks, you can't go wrong!

Do any of you own this skirt?  How did you style it?

Nifty under $50: Bright colored shorts

Not only am I obsessed with bright colored denim, but I've added bright colored shorts to my summer must-have list.  For those of you that are scared to get in on the bright colored bottoms trend, don't be afraid- just keep everything else neutral!  I recently bought a red pair of shorts from Walmart (the pair featured below, $9 holla!), and paired it with a nautical striped top and black flat sandals. Nothing too crazy, because the shorts make a statement on their own.  Here are a few of my budget friendly picks....

colored mid-rise denim short $15.80, Forever 21;  Faded Glory basic shorts $9, Walmart;  solid cotton stretch shorts $44.99, Calvin Klein;  Cooperative linen shorts $49, Urban Outfitters;  Free People stretch denim cutoffs $43.99, Bluefly

Cheapalicious Beauty: E.L.F Studio makeup brushes

By now, I'm sure all of you have heard of E.L.F (eyes, lips, face) cosmetics (if not, where have you been?), one of the most affordable makeup brands on the market.  I was recently contacted by a rep for E.L.F. to try out a few of their products.  I chose the 11-pc Studio brush collection, and enlisted my good friend and beauty junkie, Keta, to put them to the test--- Niki Cheapskate

by Keta H.
Since I've heard so many great things about the brushes from ELF's Studio collection, I was ecstatic when my friend Niki chose me to test out the 11-pc Studio brush collection.  The brush bristles are made of Taklon (synthetic) and are cruelty free.  The kit comes with the eyeshadow "c" brush, complexion brush, small angled brush, small smudge brush, fan brush, powder brush, angled foundation, concealer brush, small precision brush, blush brush, and a contouring brush- all for $30 (these brushes are $3 a pop).  I didn't use every single brush for the review, so I'm going to show you the three that I find myself using most often.

11-piece Studio Brush Collection $30.  As you can see, the brushes come with their own dust covers.

blush brush

This blush brush is a little smaller than the brushes I'm used to, but that's okay. I like how much control I have over how much product the brush applies, and this brush adds the perfect amount of product every time. The bristles are very soft and dense, but not too dense that it fails to pick up color.  I had very easy application with this brush, and there was no shedding.

powder brush

I love this powder brush. It kind of reminds me of a flat topped kabuki brush with a longer handle.  I usually use my E.L.F Total Face brush to set my powder, but I've put it on the back burner for this baby.  The bristles are very soft, and dense, and I love how it feels on my face.  I even let one of my friends borrow it to apply her mineral powder foundation and she loved the flawless finish she got.  She even went to Target and bought one for herself.  This brush is definitely a keeper!

eyeshadow "c" brush

This brush is now one of my favorite eyeshadow brushes.  Some people compare this to the MAC 239 brush, but I've never used MAC brushes, so I can't back up that comparison. The bristles are very soft, but not as dense as the other Studio brushes.  It picks up a decent amount of product , and is also good for blending.  I've been using this brush for a couple of weeks and have not experienced any shedding.

Overall, I think these makeup brushes are great for beginners and pros alike.  I love it because I stay on the go, and the case is perfect for traveling.  I would definitely recommend this makeup brush kit to anyone looking for affordable, good quality brushes.

You can purchase this 11-piece set on E.L.F's website or buy each individual brush for only $3 each.  E.L.F Studio makeup brushes are sold at Target as well.

Do you own the 11-piece Studio brush kit, or own any of the brushes from the Studio line?

Where did you get that?: Stephanie Pratt's Baby Phat jumpsuit

Former The Hills star, Stephanie Pratt, was seen leaving a car wash in Santa Monica on Friday.  Stephanie kept it comfy chic by wearing a jumpsuit from Baby Phat, wedge booties, and minimal jewelry. The jumpsuit looks really cute on her, but I feel she should have added a pop of color to her look- maybe with a bright bag or a colorful necklace- that's how I would've styled it at least.  How would you style this jumpsuit?   Check out the link below the pic to purchase.

Where did you get that?: Pippa Middleton's French Connection dress

Royal sister-in-law, Pippa Middleton, was spotted out and about last Wednesday wearing a French Connection dress.  Cute dress, but a tad bit out of my budget.  If you love it, it's still available on the site.

By now, I'm sure you all have heard of Birchbox. Birchbox is a monthly service that sends you a box of 4-5 hand-picked beauty samples for only $10 per month- no shipping charge, no extra fees, just $10. After seeing all of the hype about it on the blogs, I went ahead and signed up. I signed up a little over a month ago and I just received my first box this past Wednesday. When you sign up, you're asked to create a beauty profile (skin tone, hair type, personal style, etc), and I think the samples that are sent out are tailored to fit your profile. You can also purchase the full size versions of the products that they send from the site as well. For a list of brands that Birchbox carries, click here.  Here are the products that I've received in this month's box:

    these smell so good....

Not a bad set of samples!  I can't wait to see what's in next month's box.  A good thing about this service is that if you're not satisfied, you can stop it at any time.  It's not like you're bound to a contract or anything. We'll see what other goods are in store for the coming months.

    Have you tried Birchbox?

    Designer Way vs. Cheapalicious Way

YSL's "Deauville" canvas wedge sandals retail for $695 at Net-a-Porter.com.  So cute!  Steve Madden's "Taytum" has a similar look, but is so much more friendlier on the wallet.  Wallet friendly?  I like that!
