Cheapalicious Beauty: My new hair staples

Here are a few new hair care items that I've added to my arsenal.  All are under $10!

EcoStyler Olive Oil Styling Gel $4.79, Sally Beauty:  After hearing nothing but good things throughout the years about this gel, I decided to pick up a jar while it was on sale for $2.99 at Sally's earlier this month.  I use styling gel for laying down my edges, and boy does this gel do the job!  My edges stay laid all day, and a gel has never done that for my post relaxer hair- not even my beloved Fantasia Hair Polisher styling gel that I swear by.  This gel is a keeper!

Proclaim Argan Oil Intense Hydrating Masque $7.99, Sally Beauty:  I was in search of a new deep conditioner before I bought this.  I was using the ORS Olive Oil Replenishing Conditioner, but for some reason, it seems to leave a "film" on my hair and weighs it down now.  Even when I used a clarifying shampoo, it still felt that way after I used the conditioner, so I decided it was time to find another product.  I bought a sample of the Proclaim Argan Oil Intense Hydrating Masque, and after the first use, I was hooked.  It doesn't weigh my hair down, and detangling is a breeze.  My hair is left very soft and moisturized.

Palmer's Coconut Oil Hair Polisher $5.99, Target:  Before I style my hair, I just rub a tiny bit of this serum on my ends and smooth down my flyaways to give my hair a little shine. I love the yummy coconut smell!

Have you tried any of these products?

These are not samples.  These are products that I bought with my money.  Opinions are 100% mine.

Nifty under $50: Sofia Vergara for Kmart

Joining the celeb fashion line bandwagon, Modern Family bombshell Sofia Vergara debuted her affordable clothing line for Kmart last week.  The collection includes tops, dresses, skirts, denim, shoes and handbags, and most are priced under $50!  I haven't had a chance to go to my local store to check out the collection in person, so I want to hear your thoughts on it if you've seen it already.  Here are a few items that I like.

leopard print ruched mini dress $29.99;  knit tulip skirt $19.99;  lace back dress $29.99; lace dress $36.99;  zipper miniskirt $24.99

Cheap. Cheaper. Cheapest: Wedge desert booties

One of fall's top shoe trends.....

Cheap:  Kelsi Dagger "Fanetta" desert boot $99, Jildor
Cheaper:  "Paxton" wedge bootie $98,  Land's End Canvas
Cheapest:   suede desert wedges $34, Old Navy.  I actually bought these yesterday, and only paid $2 out of pocket! How?  They were on sale at my local store for $20, so I had $10 in Old Navy rewards, plus a 40% off coupon.  The coupon brought the price down to $12, then I used my $10 rewards.  Only $2 due from me.  Sweet!

Cheapalicious on the Scene: A little bit of Riddim Runway 2011

Yesterday, the hubby and I stepped out for the evening to attend the fourth annual Riddim Runway fashion show and concert held in downtown Fort Myers.  The runway show featured fashions from R. Milton and Old Navy, just to name a few,  as well as performances from reggae music artists Glenn Blakk, Juliette Mills, KEHV, Ky-Enie, Keisha Martin, and Wayne Wonder.  It was a very awesome show for the little time that we spent there. We ended up leaving a bit early because I got sick, but here are a few pics that manage to snap.

Carnival costume designs embodied the natural elements (earth, wind, and fire) in this runway show. The name of the designer escapes me, so if any of my local readers were there, please leave the name of the designer in the comments.  These designs will be featured at Miami's Carnival this year.

This was a special design for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, hence the pink.

All the models dancing

Reggae artist Glenn Blakk

After Glenn Blakk's performance, models walked out wearing fashions from Old Navy.  I didn't snap any pics because I was busy stuffing my face and running my mouth with my aunt.  My apologies.  Then the models came out modeling swimwear from R. Milton.  I didn't get too many pics from that showing because during that time, I was in a bad spot, so I snapped what I could, plus it was starting to get dark.  Sorry for the blurry pics.

Soca artist Juliette Mills.  Very good performance!

We left after this performance because the food and the beer didn't agree with my stomach.  While were about to drive off, we heard the host announce that outfits being modeled in the next runway show were all under $20!  Man, I would've love to stick around for that show. Sometime later, the other music guests came out and performed.  I sure hate that I missed Wayne Wonder's performance, but hopefully he'll be one of the performers for next year's show.

To all my Southwest Florida readers, did any of you attend Riddim Runway?

Thrift Score: I forgot to wear my "thrifting" uniform......

Today, I made a trip over to one my favorite thrift stores, The Family Thrift Center.  Now, you know the deal with this particular thrift store- cash only, no fitting rooms.  I usually come prepared with cash, and wear my "thrifting uniform", which consists of a maxi dress or skirt and tank- so i can try on bottoms without showing my "goods" to the world and try on tops without the extra bulk.  Well, I forgot to wear my "thrifting uniform", so I took the risk of buying a few items without trying them on.  Out of six items, only two of them didn't fit, which is a good thing because at least it wasn't everything that I bought, and I was only out of $4.  It's also a bad thing because those two items were the ones that I hoped would fit, but its okay. I'm never forgetting to wear my "thrifting uniform" again.  Here are my "hits" and "misses"....

The "misses" (what didn't fit):

Skirt $2:  I was looking for a red skirt, but I stumbled upon this coral midi skirt instead.  It's a size 12, and from Talbots.  I was so hoping it'd fit, but unfortunately, it didn't.  The waist is cut really small for some reason.  I couldn't zip it up! So bummed....

Dear by Amanda Bynes trouser jeans $2:  Does anyone remember the line of clothing that Amanda Bynes did for Steve and Barry's called "Dear"?  Well, these jeans are from that collection, and I should've left them on the rack.  I remember a couple of years ago (before Steve and Barry's closed it's doors), I tried on a pair of jeans from the "Dear" line, and those were the most ill fitting, very narrow cut jeans that I've ever tried on in my life.  Clearly, the designer didn't have us curvy gals in mind.  The pair that I picked up today are a size 14 (I wear anywhere from a 10 to 12), and I thought that they would fit since I went up a couple sizes.  Boy, was I wrong.  Still cut very narrow in the thigh.  I couldn't get these up over my hips.  Le sigh.  To the giveaway pile they go..

And now for the "hits"

tie neck blouse $4

skirt $1

romper $3

floral blouse $1:  This top looked ugly on the hanger, but I think I'll be able to rock it.  I like the slight puffed sleeves and I'm going to belt it to give it some shape.
