Marni for H&M

H&M is really doing it up with all these designer collaborations, and I'm excited to see what this upcoming collab with Marni has in store.  Check out the press release and short video clip below:

H&M is proud to announce a spring designer collaboration with the Italian brand Marni. Famed for its original prints and inventive spirit, Marni is one of fashion’s most-loved labels, and its founder and creative director, Consuelo Castiglioni, has created a spring collection for H&M for both women and men that captures the essence of Marni. Available from March 8, 2012 in over 250 stores worldwide and online, the collection features both clothing and accessories, all at H&M’s prices,  allowing everyone  the chance to enter Marni’s world.
“I wanted to create a true Marni wardrobe by revisiting all our favorite pieces in signature fabrics and prints. As always, I love juxtaposing prints and colors, mixing modern tribal with Bauhaus graphic and adding sporty utilitarian elements,” says Consuelo Castiglioni. Founder and Creative Director.
“We all love the collection here at H&M and we believe that our customers will  feel the same way. Marni has such a modern touch with everything they do, mixing prints and accessories in a playful but chic way. It’s fantastic to see how Consuelo Castiglioni coordinates her designs, matching new combinations of prints and colors, with such incredible craftsmanship behind every piece. The collection will arrive in stores at just the perfect time. as the collection will truly prove to be a lovely statement for spring,” comments Margareta van den Bosch, Creative Advisor for H&M.
Marni is a label that follows its own path and sets its own trends for prints, cuts and silhouettes, which are always playful and elegant. Marni has remained a family- owned business even as it has grown to become an international luxury brand with stores around the world.
Marni’s collection for H&M has all the freedom and experimentation for which the label is renowned, with all-over prints in strong colors intended to be worn together in layers that both match and clash. For women, the colors are vivid, and the prints are bold, be they African-inspired or simpler color blocks. The silhouettes are all Marni staples, with full pleated skirts, dresses, cropped pants and jacquard knits; fabrics range from silk to crisp cotton poplin. To complete the look, the collection also includes jewelry, shoes, bags and scarves.
For men, the colors and fabrics are softened for a relaxed take on menswear staples that  are truly Marni. The use of prints is subtle; they often appear as a lining or as a contrast detail for shirts; the silhouette is a modern, relaxed take on masculine classics. The Marni collection is the latest designer collaboration for H&M, which has previously collaborated with brands such as Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, Comme des Garçons, Jimmy Choo, Lanvin, and most recently Versace.

Black Friday and Cyber Monday Deals

The biggest shopping day of the year is almost here.  I'm not venturing out on Friday to partake in any of the madness because a) I have to work, and b) I just don't do Black Friday shopping- unless there's a deal online.  However, I will partake in Cyber Monday.  Deals galore from the comfort of my own home.  Here are some Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals that have been flooding my inbox.  If you have any deals that you want to add, feel free to put them in the comments.  Happy shopping!

Designer Way vs. Cheapalicious Way

The Charlotte Olympia striped platform pump retails for $925 at Neiman Marcus.  I love these pumps, but I would have to go at least a month without buying groceries to buy these babies, and that's not going to happen.  Urban Og has a similar version for less than $30, and you can clearly see that they're inspired by the Charlottes Olympias.  Click here to shop.

Just a few things that I picked up on Friday from the Family Thrift Center.....

Old Navy floral skirt $1.50 (half off of $2.99)

peasant top $1.99

sweater dress $5.99

 closeup of detail
plaid blazer $2.99

colorblock sweater dress $3.99.  I refuse to believe that this dress is a size 2 petite!  This dress is kinda huge on me. I'm definitely going to belt it to give it some shape, and remove those god awful shoulder pads.

Old Navy coral twill jacket $2.50 (half off $4.99)

polka dot romper $3 (half off $5.99)

button down blouse $1.50 (half off from $2.99)

Lunchbreak Shopping: Beauty finds at Big Lots

I swear Dollar Tree, Walmart, and Target are places that I go into with the intentions of buying something that I need, and end up walking out with the whole entire store.  Big Lots is no different.  On my lunch hour yesterday, I went in there to purchase some can goods to donate to the Harry Chapin Food Bank.  That was my sole purpose for going there.  Why did I take a walk down the beauty aisle?  It gets me every time. I had so much stuff in my cart, I had to stop and slap myself in the face and come back to reality. I really lost control in that store (lol).  I ended up narrowing it down to stuff I can use. Here's what I got.

  • Revlon's "Carbonite" nail polish $1.50.  I'm so happy that I've finally found this polish!  If you're looking for a cheapalicious alternative to Chanel's "Graphite", then I think this is a pretty close match.
  • Covergirl TruBlend Whipped Foundation in Soft Sable $2.  I've been wanting to try this foundation, but my local drugstores stopped carrying it. Soft Sable was the darkest shade left, so hopefully, it matches my skintone.  If not, I'm only out of two bucks.
  • CoverGirl Queen Collection lipsticks in Shiny Port Wine, Shiny Copper, and Chocolate Royale $2 each.  I need some fall shades to add to my lipstick stash, so I was glad when I stumbled upon these lipsticks from CoverGirl's Queen Collection.  Check out the swatches below.

Have you scored anything good from Big Lots lately?

Star Style Under $300: Robin Thicke

I decided to switch it up and do a celebrity look for less for the men!

R&B crooner, Robin Thicke, attended the launch party of Gwen Stefani's Harajuku Mini for Target line.  I love how he jazzed up his t-shirt and jeans combo with a pair of printed (I think they're leopard) sneakers and tan scarf.  I'm going to show this look to my husband and see if he would re-create it.  This is so his style. Check out my re-creation of Robin's outfit with budget friendly items from Target, Amazon, and more.

Designer Way vs. Cheapalicious Way

The "Savannah" dress from Diane Von Furstenberg retails for $498, and is available at CUSP.  I absolutely adore everything DVF, but that $500 price tag would surely  put a dent in my wallet.  If you like the look, but not the price, ASOS has a cheapalicious alternative (orange stripes instead of red), for a little under $72.
