Designer Way vs. Cheapalicious Way

The Charlotte Olympia "Kitty" loafers seem to be a fave among celebs such as Beyonce and Alexa Chung, but for us babes  on a budget, $600 might be a bit too steep for our pockets.  Love the look?  Go Jane has a cheapalicious version for under $20.  Meow!

8 Ways to Save on Teen Fashion

For all you teens out there that are about to embark on your school shopping journey, check out these tips from Kendal Perez on how to save on fashion!  Enjoy!

1. Attend "Back-to-School Saturday"
Teen VOGUE is sticking its well-polished toe into the busy waters of sales events on Aug. 11, with the first-ever Back-to-School Saturday. In addition to events ranging from fashion shows to mini makeovers in select cities, you can expect exclusive promotions from Guess, Express, American Eagle and many other popular retailers.

2. Organize a Clothes Swap
Before you even think about hitting the retail scene, organize a clothes swap with your friends. In addition to getting rid of items you no longer wear, you can score great style from your fashionable friends for free. Plus, you can help your friends design outfits with their new items and get advice on how to style your new wares.

3. Get Inspired
Some days you may feel like you have "nothing to wear," but with a little inspiration you can create a new look using existing pieces and accessories. In addition to magazines like Seventeen, the Internet makes it easy to keep wardrobes fresh with sites like Pinterest. Be sure to check out Design-Seeds.com to find new, unique color combinations for your outfits.

4. Don't Forget the Hair
As if! In addition to clothes and shoes, getting a new hairstyle is an essential part of preparing for back-to-school. According to MrFreeStuff.com, Remington College is offering free haircuts to kids under 17, so check their site for locations and dates. You should also bookmark Lauren Conrad's The Beauty Department -- it's chock-full of detailed tutorials on the latest hairstyles.

5. Purchase Wisely
Starting a new school year is always exciting, but don't let your enthusiasm overwhelm the household budget. By taking time to look through closets and drawers, you can prioritize what you need and rediscover items you forgot you had (hey, it happens!). From there, purchase a few key, versatile pieces to keep costs low while maintaining style.

6. Beware of Trends
There's no better time to embrace trends than during high school, but beware of spending too much on fads. Doing so is ultimately a waste of money, since trendy styles are inherently fleeting and become quickly outdated. Shop for up-and-coming styles at Kohl's and Target and embrace the latest thing without letting go of your budget.

7. Hit Up Consignment Stores
Though consignment stores have been around for a while, they're gaining popularity among savvy teenagers wanting to update their look for less. Showcase your shopping know-how by trading clothes-swap rejects for credit at Plato's Closet or Buffalo Exchange. Then, hit the racks for deals on denim, sweaters and more.

8. Remember to Be Social
Back-to-school represents a busy time for retailers as they woo consumers with sales and promotions. Since Twitter and Facebook are a permanent part of your lifestyle, following your favorite brands on these sites is a no-brainer. Retailers often announce upcoming sales and exclusive discounts for followers, so it pays to stay in the loop.

Cheapalicious Events: Riddim Runway 2012- Carnival!

Mark your calendars! It's that time of the year again in Southwest Florida- the fifth annual Riddim Runway fashion and music festival! This year, they're adding a Carnival-type parade before the fashion show and concert, so that should be pretty cool. I had the pleasure of attending last year (check out my post here), but unfortunately, I got sick and had to go home early.  This year, I'm going to try and stay for the whole show! Headlining the show is Rupee ("Tempted to Touch).  Can't wait! Oh, and by the way, it's free!  Just bring two cans of food (or more if you're really generous) to be donated to the CCMI Soup Kitchen.  Riddim Runway is on September 22.  Save the date!  For more info, visit Riddim Runway's website.

$10 pants coupon from NY & Co. in Glamour!

If you have a copy of the September 2012 issue of Glamour magazine, then you're in for a treat!  If you turn the first few pages of your mag, you'll see an ad for NY & Co.  You're probably thinking "oh wow, an advertisement, what's the big deal?"  Well.......

There's a card in there to get a pair of pants for only $10 at NY & Co.!  I'm not sure if this is JUST for Glamour subscribers (I'm a subscriber) or if these cards are in newsstand issues as well.  Last year, they had this promo and I totally missed out on it.  There wasn't a card in my magazine.  I even had my husband go and purchase a second copy for me and there still wasn't a card in there.  I don't know if they're putting them in random copies or what, hopefully that's not the case. But if you find one, lucky you!  Also, since they feature the 7th Ave pants in the ad, I believe you can use this coupon with any of their pants (except for clearance of course), but check with your local store first.

Did you find this coupon in your issue of Glamour?

Weekend Finds: Maybelline, CoverGirl, E.L.F, oh my!

It's been a while since I've been to any of my fave spots, Big Lots and Dollar Tree, so I decided to pop in this past weekend.  What was supposed to be trips to run in and get cleaning supplies and miscellaneous stuff for my home ended up being me picking up items I had no intentions of buying.  It never fails.  This time, I spotted a lot of beauty goodies- Maybelline Hydra Time lipsticks, CoverGirl Lash Blast Volume mascara, NYC Cheek Glow blushes, Maybelline Define a Brow pencils, etc.  You know I picked up a few.  Here's what I scored.

(l)- (r):  Maybelline Hydra Time lipsticks, Maybelline lip brush, Maybelline Define-a-Brow eyebrow pencil- all from Dollar Tree

Maybelline Hydra Time lipsticks in Seduce (left) and Rich (right)

swatches: Seduce (top) and Rich (bottom)

I'm so glad that I found the Define-a-Brow eyebrow pencils.  Dollar Tree only had the Dark Brown color.  It's strange that Maybelline discontinued that color because you would think that dark brown is a popular color for dark haired ladies.  Oh well, better for me.  $1 is better than $7.99 any day, so I stocked up on them.

I love that it's retractable, so I never have to sharpen!

I also found an eyeshadow palette from a brand called Profusion.  I believe this brand is sold in Walgreens also and the palettes range anywhere from $0.99- $4.99 (?).  The colors are pretty and they look very pigmented.  I also bought an L.A. Colors lipstick in Frozen Berries (for swatch pics, click here)  and an NYC Cheek Glow blush in Sutton Place Peach.

From Big Lots, I purchased the Covergirl Lash Blast volume mascara, Epielle facial cleansing tissues (which seems to be a favorite among budget beauty bloggers), and two E.L.F makeup brushes.

I never saw this eco-friendly collection from E.L.F.  Do any of you own any of the brushes from this collection?

Have you spotted any cool beauty products at Dollar Tree or Big Lots lately?  What did you buy?
