Yes, regular ol' cornstarch and topcoat. Since I can't seem to find the NYC Matte Me Crazy mattifying topcoat anywhere in my area (there are other brands that make mattifying topcoats, but I just want a cheap, drugstore version because I know I won't be using it too much), I decided to grab some cornstarch and my OPI topcoat that I never use and decided to give it a try.
What you Need:
- A bottle of topcoat
- something to carefully funnel the cornstarch into the polish. I used the tip of a butter knife to funnel the cornstarch into the polish, but you can use a small funnel (or use a piece of paper rolled into a makeshift funnel) as well.
- If you're using a small funnel, place it in the neck of the nail polish bottle
- Add about a tablespoon of the cornstarch to the polish and shake vigorously. Make sure the cornstarch and polish are mixed thoroughly
- Let the polish sit for at least 24 hours before using
My little concoction didn't quite give the mattifying effect I was hoping for....
This was taken outside in natural light (please excuse my nail). My camera didn't really take a great pic, but as you can see, the topcoat still has a bit of a shine to it- not a complete mattifying. I'm not sure what I've done wrong, I followed the directions to a tee (simple steps, how could you go wrong?). I'm thinking of trying a different topcoat. Maybe that would help? If any of you have tried this diy prior to this post, please let me know how it turned out for you!
